Whether you’ve walked past the Tabernacle a hundred times on your way to the beach, or you’re planning your very first visit to Ocean City, NJ — this is the guide you need. Below you’ll find service times, what to expect, where to park, who’s speaking, and everything else that will help you make the most of a Sunday morning at OCT.
What Is the Ocean City Tabernacle?
The Ocean City Tabernacle is a nonprofit, interdenominational Christian ministry that has been at the center of Ocean City, New Jersey since the city’s founding in 1879. It’s not a traditional church with a congregation — it’s more accurately described as a community worship center, open to everyone, that comes alive each summer with nationally recognized speakers, live music, and a genuine sense of shared faith.
Generations of families have made the Sunday morning service a cornerstone of their Ocean City vacation. Many describe it as one of the most meaningful parts of their trip to the shore — a moment of stillness and inspiration in the middle of a busy summer week.
Summer Service Times
Traditional Service (8:30 a.m.) — Hymn-led worship with a full offertory, prayer, and a message from a nationally recognized speaker. A quieter, more reflective start to the day.
Contemporary Service (10:30 a.m.) — Modern worship music, the same message, and an energetic atmosphere. This is the busiest service of the week — arrive early for seating.
Both services run throughout June, July, and August every Sunday morning. Evening concerts and special events are also scheduled throughout the season — check the events calendar for details.
Who Speaks at OCT?
Each week of the summer features a different nationally recognized speaker — authors, theologians, pastors, athletes, and cultural leaders whose messages are biblically grounded and broadly accessible. Past and upcoming speakers in 2026 include Leonard Sweet, Brian Dawkins (NFL Hall of Famer), the Robertson family from Duck Dynasty, and others.

Location & Getting There
Address: 550 Wesley Avenue, Ocean City, NJ 08226
Intersection: Asbury Avenue and 6th Street — near the center of the island.
Ocean City is accessible via the 9th Street Bridge, the 34th Street Bridge, and the Garden State Parkway. The Tabernacle is a short walk or bike ride from most Ocean City rentals and hotels.
Parking
Street parking is available in the surrounding blocks, though it fills quickly on summer Sunday mornings — especially for the 10:30 service. We recommend arriving 20–30 minutes early, or parking further from the beach and walking. City parking lots are also available nearby.
Is It Free?
Yes. Both Sunday morning services are free and open to everyone. An offering is taken during each service for those who wish to give, but there is no admission, no ticket, and no membership required. The Tabernacle truly operates as an open-door ministry — no matter where you’re coming from, you’re welcome.
What to Expect Inside
The Tabernacle’s 1,000-seat sanctuary is air-conditioned and beautifully maintained. The atmosphere is warm, reverent, and welcoming — casual enough for a beach vacation, meaningful enough to leave an impression. Most families dress in what they’d consider smart-casual: no need for formal attire, but Sunday morning at OCT tends to bring out something a little nicer than beach cover-ups.
The services typically run 60–75 minutes. Children are welcome at both services.
Beyond Sunday Services
The Tabernacle is active year-round. In addition to summer services, OCT offers:
- The ARK Preschool — a licensed Christian early childhood program
- After-school tutoring and youth programs
- Evening concert series throughout the summer
- Facility rentals for visiting church groups, conferences, and community events
- A Farmers Market and other community gatherings on the Tabernacle grounds
